Adult in white robes holds a child's hand, walking in a serene landscape. The scene is calm with soft earth tones and a gentle mood.
We are children of God, heirs to His blessings.

Rejoice in the Lord, for His joy is our strength! Let's embark on a journey of discovering the unveiled presence of God, not just around us, but within us. This meditation explores the powerful truth that God resides in every believer, empowering us to overcome challenges and live a life of victory through the New Covenant.

No Spirit of Fear: Embracing Our Adoption

"For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, “Abba! Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God," (Romans 8:14-16)

The Apostle Paul emphasizes a crucial distinction between the spirit of slavery and the Spirit of adoption. Under the Old Covenant, the law brought a sense of fear and condemnation. However, through faith in Jesus Christ, we receive the Holy Spirit, who assures us of our adoption into God's family. This adoption brings a radical shift in our relationship with God. We are back to the family of our loving father God, we are no longer slaves, living in fear of punishment, but beloved children, secure in His love. The term "Abba! Father!" signifies the intimate and loving relationship we now have with God. It's the cry of a child who trusts and depends on their father. The Holy Spirit testifies to this truth within our hearts, confirming our identity as God's children and dispelling any lingering fear or insecurity. This assurance empowers us to approach God with boldness and confidence, knowing that we are accepted and loved unconditionally.

Heirs of All Blessings: Sharing in Christ's Suffering and Glory

"and if children, then heirs—heirs of God and fellow heirs with Christ, provided we suffer with him in order that we may also be glorified with him." (Romans 8:17)

Our inheritance as God's children extends beyond material blessings to encompass the fullness of Christ's glory. However, this inheritance also includes sharing in His sufferings. This doesn't necessarily mean experiencing physical pain or hardship, but rather enduring opposition and persecution for our faith. When we stand for truth and righteousness in a world that often rejects God's values, we identify with Christ's suffering. This identification is not a burden but a privilege, as it identify us more closely with our Savior. Furthermore, Paul assures us that our present sufferings are not comparable to the future glory that awaits us. The glory we will share with Christ far outweighs any temporary hardship we may face in this life. This promise gives us hope and perseverance, knowing that our trials are producing an eternal weight of glory.

The Lion, the Bear, and the Giant: The Power of Covenant

"Your servant has struck down both lions and bears, and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be like one of them, for he has defied the armies of the living God.” And David said, “The Lord who delivered me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear will deliver me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and the Lord be with you!” (1 Samuel 17:36-37)

David's encounter with Goliath reveals the power of a covenant relationship with God. As a young shepherd, David had faced and overcome lions and bears while protecting his flock. These experiences instilled in him a deep trust in God's protection and provision. When he faced Goliath, he didn't rely on his own strength or skill but on the God who had delivered him in the past. David's confidence wasn't arrogance but faith rooted in his covenant relationship with God. He understood that Goliath's defiance wasn't just against Israel but against the living God. This understanding empowered him to face the giant without fear, knowing that God would fight for him. Saul's words, "The Lord be with you," while well-intentioned, lacked the depth of understanding that David possessed. David knew that God was with him, not just in a general sense, but in a personal and powerful way.

Better Promises: The New Covenant in Christ

"But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises." (Hebrews 8:6)

The writer of Hebrews highlights the superiority of the New Covenant established through Jesus Christ. The Old Covenant, based on the law, offered blessings and promises contingent on obedience. However, the New Covenant, based on grace, offers forgiveness, reconciliation, and eternal life through faith in Jesus. The better promises of the New Covenant are not merely an improvement on the Old but a complete transformation. They are based on the finished work of Christ on the cross, where He fulfilled the demands of the law and secured our redemption. This new covenant is not dependent on our performance but on God's unwavering love and faithfulness. It is a covenant of grace, freely given to all who believe. Through this covenant, we have access to God's presence, power, and promises in a way that was not possible under the Old Covenant.

Conclusion

As we conclude this meditation, let us embrace the truth of God's presence within us. Through the New Covenant, we have access to better promises and the power to overcome fear and challenges. Let us walk in the confidence of knowing that we are children of God, heirs to His blessings, and equipped to live a life of victory.

Reflect on This:

  1. How can you practically apply the truth of God's indwelling presence to your daily life?

  2. How does the New Covenant empower you to face challenges with faith and courage?
